సంక్షిప్త పరిచయం
సావిత్రి — తెలుగు సినిమా చరిత్రలో మహానటి. 1950లో శంతతో అరంగేట్రం; 200+ తెలుగు, తమిళ, మలయాళ, కన్నడ, హిందీ సినిమాల్లో నటించారు. మాయాబజార్ (1957), దేవదాసు, మిస్సమ్మ, చివరకు మిగిలేది, పేకాట, మూగమనసులు — ఆమె కెరీర్ను చిరస్థాయిగా నిలిపిన సినిమాలు.
మాయాబజార్ — శశిరేఖ
1957 నాటి మాయాబజార్లో శశిరేఖగా ఆమె నటన — తెలుగు సినిమా చరిత్రలో అత్యంత ఐకాన్. NTRతో సరిసమానంగా నిలబడిన ఆ పాత్ర — ఆమెను అమర్త్యం చేసింది.
నటిగా + దర్శకురాలిగా
1969లో చిన్నారి పాపలుతో దర్శకత్వంలోకి. తెలుగు సినిమాలో మహిళా దర్శకత్వం చేసిన మొదటి నటీమణుల్లో ఒకరు.
వ్యక్తిగత జీవితం
జెమినీ గణేశన్ (తమిళ నటుడు)తో వివాహం (1956). ఇద్దరు సంతానం — విజయ చాముండేశ్వరి + సతీష్ కుమార్. 1981లో పేదరికం, తాత్కాలిక మానసిక సమస్యల మధ్య నిష్క్రమణ — తెలుగు సినిమా చరిత్రలో అత్యంత హృదయవిదారక అధ్యాయం.
వారసత్వం
2018లో మహానటి (కీర్తి సురేష్ నటించారు, నాగ్ అశ్విన్ దర్శకత్వం) — సావిత్రి జీవితంపై రూపొందిన బయోపిక్; నేషనల్ అవార్డులు గెలిచింది. ఈ సినిమా ద్వారా కొత్త తరం సావిత్రిని గుర్తు చేసుకుంది.

Overview
Savitri is widely regarded as the greatest actress in the history of South Indian cinema. Debuting in 1950, she went on to star in over 200 films across Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.
Maya Bazaar — Sasirekha
Her portrayal of Sasirekha in Maya Bazaar (1957), opposite N. T. Rama Rao's Sri Krishna, remains one of the most beloved performances in Indian cinema.
Career range
From the tragic Devadasu to the comic Missamma, the literary Chivaraku Migiledi, and direction debut Chinnari Papalu (1969), she set a new bar for female-led performances and creative leadership.
Personal life
Married Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan in 1956. Daughter Vijaya Chamundeswari and son Sathish Kumar survive her. Passed away in 1981 after a difficult final decade — one of the most poignant chapters of Telugu cinema.
Legacy
Nag Ashwin's National-Award-winning biopic Mahanati (2018, starring Keerthy Suresh) reintroduced Savitri to a new generation.
