ప్రారంభ జీవితం
1965 మార్చి 26న బెంగళూరులో జన్మించిన ప్రకాష్ రాయ్ (నటనకు ప్రకాష్ రాజ్) తండ్రి హిందూ తల్లి క్రైస్తవ కుటుంబంలో పెరిగారు. స్కూల్ స్థాయి నుండే నాటకంపై ఆసక్తి; సెయింట్ జోసెఫ్ ఇండియన్ హై స్కూల్, బెంగళూరు పీఈఎస్ కళాశాలల్లో చదువు. కన్నడ నాటకరంగంలో గుబ్బి వీరణ్ణ సంస్థతో అనుబంధం.
నటనా ప్రయాణం
1980ల్లో దూరదర్శన్ ధారావాహికాలతో ప్రారంభం. 1994లో మణిరత్నం దర్శకత్వం వహించిన 'బొంబాయి' హీరో అరవింద్ స్వామి తండ్రిగా దక్షిణ భారతదేశమంతా గుర్తింపు. 1990లలో శరద్ - వంశీ - జంధ్యాల వంటి తెలుగు దర్శకుల చిత్రాల్లో పాత్రలు; మణిరత్నం 'ఇరువర్' (1997) — తమిళంలో MGR-తరహా రాజకీయ నాయకుడుగా రాష్ట్రీయ చలనచిత్ర పురస్కారం.
తెలుగు ప్రభావం
'ఓకే ఒక్కడు' (1999), 'నువ్వే కావాలి' (2000), 'శ్రీ' (2002), 'ఆనంద్' (2004) — ఇవి ప్రకాష్ రాజ్ను తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకుల హృదయంలో నిలబెట్టాయి. తండ్రి, అన్నయ్య, మెంటార్, సానుకూల విలన్ — అన్ని రకాల పాత్రలను ఆకళింపు చేసుకున్నాడు. Early Life
Born 26 March 1965 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, Prakash Raj (originally Prakash Rai) grew up in a mixed-faith household — Hindu father, Christian mother. He was educated at St. Joseph's Indian High School and PES College and was drawn to theatre from his school days, eventually joining the Gubbi Veeranna troupe in Kannada theatre.
Acting Career
Started with Doordarshan television serials in the late 1980s. The pan-South-Indian breakthrough was Mani Ratnam's 'Bombay' (1994), playing Arvind Swamy's father — a quiet, weighty turn that announced him to every Southern industry simultaneously. Ratnam's 'Iruvar' (1997) — a thinly-veiled MGR biopic in Tamil — won him his first National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Telugu Impact
'Oke Okkadu' (1999), 'Nuvve Kavali' (2000), 'Sri' (2002), 'Anand' (2004) — these films cemented his standing with Telugu audiences across paternal, mentor, redeemed-villain, and fully antagonistic registers. The Pokiri (2006) trio of Ali, Brahmanandam and Prakash Raj remains a touchstone of mass-comedy ensemble work; Sivaji (2007) saw him as the principal antagonist to Rajinikanth.
